What's Up

It has been a pretty crazy busy week. I just got home from my Thur. night class and I am beat. I rode my bike today (not very far), and it really got me excited about getting back into it. I think I may pick up a book on bike maintenance to see if I can do my own repairs. I enjoyed riding my bike today, but a recent ride of the Kona Africa bike showed me how a bike should REALLY fit. But for now I will do what I can with the bike I have (frugalness and all). Emily and I joined the veggie coop at school and got our first big haul in today. It's a really good deal, at $10 a week you get a huge amount of local, in season produce. We got armfuls of turnip greens and collard greens, 2 massive sweet potatoes and 2 winter squash. We feasted on one of the sweet potatoes this evening, pairing it with Quorn gruyere cutlets (yum). The weather has really been crazy this year. It snowed and then it was 60 degrees, who knows what it will do next? Tomorrow I have to work and then I'm going to attempt to ride to the lake that's pretty close to our house. Emily and I are planning on going to paint pottery and maybe even see a movie (although I doubt that will happen). Have a great weekend!

From the ds Once More

I know that it has been a few days since I have posted a blog of any real length. I have been super busy eth school. It takes a lot to keep up with the amount of work I have. I went to the doctor today for a complete physical (which was not a whole lot of fun) and got a prescription for this new drug that will supposedly make me want to stop smoking. I plan on giving it a try later this week. The dr. told me that I needed to start getting out and exercising more. He said I should sart rding my bike more so I will. I have to get to class now.

Mantra

I just keep reminding myself, "Breathe in, breathe out."

Hells Yeah

I just saw this yesterday and had to add it today. I hold scientology in nothing but contempt, and heartily endorse this Anonymous.

First Week of School

It's been a hectic week. So far all of my classes have been pretty great, but I can already tell that I am going to be doing a LOT of work. I especially like my Spanish class. It snowed today (first snow of winter) and lots of people freaked out (which is hilarious). I meant to take a picture of the pretty newly fallen snow this morning but never got around to it. I took this one tonight of the ice on a branch. I think that it catches the feel particularly well. Other news: I finally joined facebook, kicking and screaming. I always said I would avoid it but so many more people are on there than are on Myspace (at least that I know). If you're a member addEmily and I are gearing up for her birthday weekend. Plans are tentative, but tomorrow looks pretty fun. We are planning on going to Mad Platter to make some plates and cups and then to a contra dance at Guilford. I work in the morning so I need to get to bed, but this weekend had some promising photo opportunities.

First Day of School

So I started school today. But before that I went to the physical therapist. The Dr. is pretty funny and seemed concerned with how I felt and not how fast he could talk at me and then get me out. I go back next Mon. I had my Spanish class and my Chem class today. The chem class, with the lab on Mondays, is from 1pm-5:20pm with a 15 minute break. Yuck. The teacher seemed really cool though and hopefully the readings will be interesting. I had to bread down and buy the Spanish textbook today because I couldn't use the 6th edition (which was free), instead I bought the 7th edition (which was $146). I got coffee with Jed after class and we loosely framed plans for a bike ride this weekend, but that really depends on what the weather is like. It will be difficult to fit it in with the other stuff that we are doing for Em's b-day. Emily and I went to the mall to find her some pants (unsuccessfully), then came home for the leftover pizza (dinner). I needed to go change my coins into an Amazon gift cert. at the grocery store and we ended up being amazed with produce. There are crazy tropical fruits that I have never even heard of. I wanted to splurge and use the credit card to buy one of each and have and exotic fruit frenzy, but Emily's better judgment won the day. We ended up buying a red pummelo. Those things are huge! It was pretty tasty too.

I Should Be Sleeping

I know that I should be sleeping as I have a VERY busy day tomorrow, but I'm to tense. I start school and have a doctors appointment. Yuck. Emily and I went to see the movie Juno this evening and it was really great. We laughed quite a bit. I would highly recommend the movie. Then we went to Starbucks and drank coffee and read for a little bit. Not much else going on. Emily's birthday week starts today and she is rather excited about that. I'll try to post tomorrow to let everyone know how the first day of school went.
