From the ds Once More
I know that it has been a few days since I have posted a blog of any real length. I have been super busy eth school. It takes a lot to keep up with the amount of work I have. I went to the doctor today for a complete physical (which was not a whole lot of fun) and got a prescription for this new drug that will supposedly make me want to stop smoking. I plan on giving it a try later this week. The dr. told me that I needed to start getting out and exercising more. He said I should sart rding my bike more so I will. I have to get to class now.

First Week of School
It's been a hectic week. So far all of my classes have been pretty great, but I can already tell that I am going to be doing a LOT of work. I especially like my Spanish class. It snowed today (first snow of winter) and lots of people freaked out (which is hilarious). I meant to take a picture of the pretty newly fallen snow this morning but never got around to it. I took this one tonight of the ice on a branch. I think that it catches the feel particularly well. Other news: I finally joined facebook, kicking and screaming. I always said I would avoid it but so many more people are on there than are on Myspace (at least that I know). If you're a member addEmily and I are gearing up for her birthday weekend. Plans are tentative, but tomorrow looks pretty fun. We are planning on going to Mad Platter to make some plates and cups and then to a contra dance at Guilford. I work in the morning so I need to get to bed, but this weekend had some promising photo opportunities.

First Day of School
So I started school today. But before that I went to the physical therapist. The Dr. is pretty funny and seemed concerned with how I felt and not how fast he could talk at me and then get me out. I go back next Mon. I had my Spanish class and my Chem class today. The chem class, with the lab on Mondays, is from 1pm-5:20pm with a 15 minute break. Yuck. The teacher seemed really cool though and hopefully the readings will be interesting. I had to bread down and buy the Spanish textbook today because I couldn't use the 6th edition (which was free), instead I bought the 7th edition (which was $146). I got coffee with Jed after class and we loosely framed plans for a bike ride this weekend, but that really depends on what the weather is like. It will be difficult to fit it in with the other stuff that we are doing for Em's b-day. Emily and I went to the mall to find her some pants (unsuccessfully), then came home for the leftover pizza (dinner). I needed to go change my coins into an Amazon gift cert. at the grocery store and we ended up being amazed with produce. There are crazy tropical fruits that I have never even heard of. I wanted to splurge and use the credit card to buy one of each and have and exotic fruit frenzy, but Emily's better judgment won the day. We ended up buying a red pummelo. Those things are huge! It was pretty tasty too.
I Should Be Sleeping
I know that I should be sleeping as I have a VERY busy day tomorrow, but I'm to tense. I start school and have a doctors appointment. Yuck. Emily and I went to see the movie Juno this evening and it was really great. We laughed quite a bit. I would highly recommend the movie. Then we went to Starbucks and drank coffee and read for a little bit. Not much else going on. Emily's birthday week starts today and she is rather excited about that. I'll try to post tomorrow to let everyone know how the first day of school went.

Today is the...
Isn't this a pretty picture of Emily? I just found it in my picture files. Today I was woken up at 7:10 on my day off as the opener at work had not shown up. It was nice to get some hours but I missed out on some vital beauty sleep. The night before I hadn't slept at all as I was freaking out about school stuff. There was an alleviation of these worries when I had a textbook miracle today. All of my textbooks would have ended up costing about $400 dollars if they had been purchased at the bookstore. So far I have managed to get all but one of them. Most were bought on amazon (hurray) and so far I've only bought one from the bookstore. Last semester I spent all my Guilford card money on my books and still had to pay some out of pocket. So I hardly expected there to be anything left on there. However, as I was being rung up I thought "What the heck..." and gave my card to the cashier. Surprise! for my $60 tab I paid $59 from mysterious Guilford card money. I have no idea where it came from as I only took out the minimum needed to pay tuition with my loan. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth I gladly paid my $1 and left. After that I went to dinner with Jed's Pa and stepmama, along with Jed and Emily, at Spring Garden Pizza. The food was tasty, although the restaurant was a bit noisy. After Emily, Jed, and I went to Barnes and Noble (to return a book for Jed), and to Wal-Mart (to return some make up for Em's). While we were there I pestered the electronic department chica about when the Everex would actually ship. She said to come in on the 22nd and they would definitely know if they would have it. I'm excited. Here are some movies I took at the Asheboro Zoo in, um, I think 2006. Enjoy!
Tiny Cars
It seems that the whole world is finally coming aroudn to the Jeremy-town way of thinking. Tiny computers like the Asus, XO-1, and the Cloudbook, are all starting to get more and more press. The designer for the XO-1 even says that she may have $75 dollar computers in teh near future! That's bonkers. But it finally happened. The tiny car. Cheap, inexpensive and awesome. The Nano.

Quick Update
The Cloudbook will be available at Wal-Mart on Jan. 25th!!! Hurray! I know that all of you have been reading all of the available news on the gOS Cloudbook, ahem, on my little links below. I'm so excited. This is the ultra mobile pc (umpc) that everyone has been waiting for. I'm getting one and so is my mother (although she probably doesn't know this yet). It operates with a special form of Ubuntu (yay) and is streamlined with Google apps. The device has a 30 gb hard drive and card readers and usb ports galore. The screen is only 7" and it is super cool looking

Birthdays and Che
It has been an uneventful week so far. I went to a birthday party last night for Mary Ann Sawyer. It was at Cafe Europa which I had never been to. Her boyfriend Jeff invited us and we all surprised her. Jeff's a pretty cool guy and a mid-westerner like myself. Here's a photo of Mary Ann being surprised.
I need to head out to the bookstore for my schoolbooks but I've been putting it off as I dread buying them. I think they are going to cost almost 400 dollars this semester! AAAACKKKKK!!! One book I did buy recently though is Chasing Che: A Motorcycle Journey in Search of the Guavara Legend by Patrick Symmes. The author retraces the famous motorcycle journey Che took in the 50s. I highly recommend it. Its purchase was influenced by the facts that a) it looked cool, b) I'm taking a Latin American history class this semester and flipping through the book I saw that it mentions Latin American politics a LOT. So far the politics have only served to confuse me, but having a prior knowledge base before taking a class always makes me more comfortable.
I've written before this (maybe) that I found a 3/4 sized guitar that I can play without hurting my wrist. It has really reinvigorated my interest in playing guitar. I spoke (through myspace messages) with a friend of mine who has his own recording studio about maybe recording something. Maybe that will happen and maybe it wont, but it still makes me happy to think about.
In my recent obsession with the Grateful Dead I've been listening to their album Aoxamoxoa on a constant basis. Its pretty awesome. Here's a pic of my wall hanging I got for Christmas. Emily and I may be heading back to N. Myrtle nest week, so you know there will be more fishy pics. That's all for now though. Maybe next time I'll actually write something interesting besides just what I've been up to lately.

A Beautiful Wedding
Today I attended a beautiful wedding. I went with Jed because Emily was one of the bridesmaids and therefore couldn't be my date. Until today I had never been to a Catholic wedding. There seems to be a lot of sitting and standing. Which is cool. The bride, Dottie Sawyer (now Dottie Dator), in Emily's bestest friend. They worked together at the Grande movie house. Emily was the only non-Sawyer bridesmaid. I know Dottie from way back. She briefly played violin in a band I had with Danny called Bliss. I still have tapes from our practices. I hope she and her husband have a great life and enjoy married life. Here's a picture of the bride. It was hard to get a face-on shot and I didn't want to get her attention when it was her day. I think it's a pretty pic though, and really shows off her dress. I also included a silent movie (because that's all the digital camera will take and I ALWAYS forget my vid cam for imp. things!) of the married couple being pulled in multiple directions. It's amazing at the end as they look like birds in a flock wheeling as one in the sky. I like to think of it as their REAL first dance.

The Fantasmagoric New Years Beach Trip '07/'08!!! (part 2-The Story)
Day 1: It started on Sat. The final trip of 'o7 and the first trip of '08. I had spent the whole day prepping, shopping for necessary items that (who knows) they might not have in SC and getting the vehicle ready. I have always been a bit retentive about getting a car checked out before a trip, because what if I didn't and something screwed up that could have been prevented? I know that doesn't mesh well with the new attitude I'm trying to foster in myself, but old habits die hard. The car was checked out and fueled and (somewhat) cleaned. The day had been spent scrambling around, packing and stuffing stuff into the car as I awaited my two traveling companions. Emily finally got home from work and we went to get Jed. While I thought I had prepared for every eventuality, Jed had packed as if we were fleeing the country. As we packed up his golden mules, and 24 different pairs of shoes, we all hacked and spit excessive amounts of plegm. All of us had been pretty sick before the trip, so we sounded like a bunch sickos the whole way down. Jed decided that communication through ad libbed sign language was the way to go, which more than once led to me hoarsely rasping "Just say it for chrisake!" The drive down was confusing because we were not only trying a new way, but mapwuest had neglected to tell us that parts of 220 and 74 were closed for some reason or another. It was fine though, and we eventually got to the condo. That night we read and watched some tv before all collapsing into bed.
Day 2: The next morning we awoke to a beautiful, fairytale like mist encompassing most of the land. It was truly magical. We drove to the grocery store and loaded up a months worth of groceries for the two days we had left. Jed and I headed out with Emily to see the beach and play around. The mist was beautiful. Later that day we went to Duffy Street, which had been highly recommended by my mother, and had a not so delicious meal. We chalked it up to a learning experience until the bill came, $50!!! WTF!!! We became visibly angry and went back home. We decided that this first evening would consist of us eating delicious crudite, and reading whatever we wanted! I start school on the 14th, so reading whatever I want is something to treasure. Jed and EMily watched many Snoop Dogg reality show episodes, and I fell asleep listening to the Grateful Dead, dreaming about feeding the fishy.
Day 3: We awoke with the sun and drank delicious coffee before heading out to Broadway at the Beach. It is there that the world famous Israeli Carp wait to be fed. I had been quite excited about letting Jed see these amazing creatures and he was suitably impressed. I bought a few Grateful Dead stickers, took some great photos of Jed and Emily, and bought some buffalo sandals. When we got back home we ate delicious pasta and drank champagne with cherries in it. Around midnight we went down to the beach and watched the fireworks. It looks to be a great new year.
Day 4: We all woke up late and lazily read until we went to get lunch. We ate at Hot Diggity Dog. I had a Beach Dog. We sat outside in the warm sunny air in our t-shirts, with our pant legs rolled up. The weather was so nice there. I hate the cold. After we got back we read and cleaned up sporadically. Then we went to the beach one last time. While Jed was building a trench from one of the tidal pools to the ocean, I found a little baby starfish. At first I thought it was dead, and put it in my cellophane cigarette wrapper. But Emily saw it move (so it was saved). We tossed it out a few feet into deeper ocean water and watched for a while to see that no seagulls got it. As we left it waved goodbye.

The Fantasmagoric New Years Beach Trip '07/'08!!! (part 1-The Photo Montage)
So we just got home this evening and I am bushed. It was a great time at the Beach with Jed and Em's, but I'm too tired to write about it now. I put up a huge amount of photos that are really fun. Tomorrow, when I have some free time, I will write more. Don't forget to watch my two movies at the end!
