More Notes From The DS

Hello all! I finally finished the dreaded english paper. I still don't have the new computer from dell, and sadly the ninny-tendo gets me online faster than my old computer. So I have refused to use ye olde computer and instead will use the nintendo. I should be working on reading about 60 pages of articles about why Truman dropped the atomic bomb on japan, but ecided to blog a little instead. I'm excited about history class tomorrow because we're going to have a debate about the Truman decision and I get to be a judge! It's going to be one of the highlights of MY day. After class I'm gonna go cash my check and get me some groceries. Emily is quite excited about that as we haven't had food in the house for days. We did get to try the new pad thai restaurant that opened up across the street. Emily had the yellow curry which I thought was delicious and on par with Tara Thai. I had the shrimp pad thai which was pretty bland. We plan on going at least a few more times because they gave us some sweet buy one get one free coupons. Tonight we had dinner with Emily's sis-tar Abby and her husband Tony (the tiger). It was a really fun time. That Tony gives great comic shop talk. They even paid for dinner! I had a great bacon burger. That's pretty much the extent of what happened today. I'm off to read some history (and grab some tinfoil for some soft serve).

FROM THE DS

What up yalls? I be writin this on me nintendo ds. I got an internet browser for it which is really pretty cool. Its Kinda slow and I dont have a lot of control over what punctuation I can use, but its still awesome. So please forgive the typos, and know that im workin on it. I still dont have the new dell yet but it should be here any day. Promise to put up some new pics when it does get here. Annie came by the other day to give me my b-day present. It was really nice getting to see her. The two of us dont get together as often as we should. I am stressing about an English paper that is due on Thur., but I know I can do it. Im planning to switch my major to history from english because I have remembered that I dont particularly care for ripping my books apart. Oh well, that is all for now, peace out.
(everyone should look up the term lolcats --exercise that wiki!--and go to the icanhascheeseburger link)

A Day Off

I know that it has been forever since I've posted anything, but I've been crazy busy! School and work tend to really eat up time. I promise that I will post more soon.

Two Dinners

This evening my dear old dad came to town. Pops was in town on business in Winston. I was very excited for him to be here because I haven't seen him since earlier this summer. This is a picture of him playing with my computer while enjoying an after dinner dum-dum. We met up with my sister on her dinner break from work. Anna (my sister) certainly looked nice in her navy scrubs. Emily, Anna, my father and I went to see Anna and Mitch's (my brother in law) new house that they just bought. Located close to UNCG (where Mitch goes to school) the house is also very handily located for my sis since it's so close to her work.

Aren't these orienteering glasses cool? They have a signal mirror and a compass. They also fold up nicely. Anyhoo, back to the story.
Concerned that we wouldn't have enough time to eat at Pho, we went to Jack's Corner. I don't get it. I suppose I just don't like Palestinian food. Every time I go there I think that I'm really going to like it, but I never do. Emily and Anna really enjoyed their food while Dad and I split an entree. Neither of us felt full, so as soon as we dropped dear old sis off at work, we went to Pho! Hurray!!!
Dad tried some of the buffalo wings that I've been writing about and had chicken vermicelli. I had the beef and green beans. It was thoroughly enjoyable, although none of the staff that asks me if Dad's in town EVERY TIME I GO THERE! were working the one time he came.

HA HA HA! Look how cool I look here! That's one sexy man. Something that was weird was that my family has been reading my blog. So I would say something like, "Guess who came to surprise me at work yesterday?" And one of them would say, "Jed." It was a little disappointing, although kind of pleasing to the lazy part of me. I'd say, "Banana cigar." And they would say, "Sounds like fun." It was like abbreviated conversation. Now that I think about it, this is great. Now I'll just refer people to blog post titles and dates when I'm at family functions and they ask how I'm doing or what I've been doing.

This is me looking far off into the distance of the hallway.
Emily says that Jacks Corner isn't agreeing with her tummy. That makes me sad.

My Best Friend Jed

Jed Weston. My best friend since 2001. I don't think I have ever had a friend for that long. I suppose that's a sad thing, but I never felt like it was. I met Jed in orientation at Wilmington. I was in this huge assembly and this guy sitting behind me was throwing out these massively cheesy lines to a (if I remember correctly) marginally pretty girl. I was feeling a little lonely, and I heard him say that he was from Greensboro, so Iturned around and excitedly yelled "I'm from Greensboro too!" Successful in my unintentional disruption of his gentlemanly pursuits, I turned back around chagrined at my sad showing of the college level of cool. Months later at move in, who should turn out to be my next door neighbor but this long haired hippy from orientation. The rest is history. He had always been a great guy. Which is why I was so excited on Friday night when he casually walked up to me at Starbucks while I was working. We met up at 11 after I got off work. He came by the house and met Emily's friend Dottie. Jed told me later that he had watched hundreds of episodes of Cops over the summer and, knowing that Dotte had just been accepted to police academy, desperately wanted to grill her. Luckily he held back. Jed had just returned earlier in the week from Denver Colorado and brought me this totally sweet mug. I really wish that he would start a blog (hint, hint, Jed) because, unlike me, he actually does some really fun and interesting things. Also, he takes great photos. Maybe someday. I tried to convince him it was just like writing a journal except that other people read it and HAVE to accept what you say as the truth (for example, I am really cool. See? Now everyone has to accept that as truth with capital T. It may not be true, but you don't know really do you? HA!) I had a great time with him smoking disgusting banana flavor cigars and drinking nasty bottled frapps. We strolled in the park long past midnight and only twice interrupted couples walking romantically along the path. I certainly would be scared by two fellows smoking overlarge banana scented cigars and waving around glass bottles while discussing their feelings in loud boisterous voices at 2 in the morning in the park. I didn't end up hitting the hay until almost 3 AM, which really sucked because I had to get up for work at 6. But it was all worth it. Seeing a great friend can really give you time to vent away some of the stress that surrounds the day to day. Hopefully he'll be back in town soon.

As I stated before, I'm a totally awesome and hip guy. So this is most definitely not a weird collection of decorative objects (read: toys) on my desktop. In fact, I don't even have a desk and I live in the woods. Woods are cool right? So I live in the woods and blog on my computer ran by a hand cranked generator. That's really green and cool. Once more, this is not a creepy collection of nerdy toys with a scary gnome surrounded by puppies looking around a display case like he wants to kill you.

Manny the Mantis

These days Emily and I have a new friend. Out on our steps live Manny the Mantis. He does a pretty good job of keeping our stairs free of bugs. I'm pretty tired. For Hist. I had to watch the movie "Bandit Queen," a sensationalized story of India's Phoolan Devi. Dear God, that has to be one of the most depressing movies of all time. Phoolan's life (as portrayed in the movie) consisted of a series of rapes followed by murder and violence. The real Phoolan Devi became a member of India's parliament and was assassinated in 2001. I continue to have massive computer issues, but hopefully they will be resolved soon. I really like this computer and hope that if they send me a new one it will be the same one. Without all the problems of course. Emily continues her job hunt and has gotten back some pretty positive replies from potential employers. She is so smart and capable that I have no doubt she will get a great job. That's all for now as I have to get to class. If anyone is at Four Seasons Mall tonight they should drop by Starbucks and say hi.

My Birthday

So the final day of birthday weekend is here. September 2nd, 2007. I am 25 years old today. A quarter century old. One third of the way through life. While I desperately want to go into some long rant about what I have and haven't accomplished in my time on this earth, instead I will tell about all the trivial and fun things that I did today. The morning started off with a phone call from my pops saying happy birthday and sending his well wishes my way. Emily and I putted around the house for a bit while I fiddled with the new laptop (which has been malfunctioning an annoying amount for a new computer), before heading out to eat. We attended this weekends eatery of choice, Pho Hien Vuong, where I had a delicious vegetarian imperial roll, buffalo wings, and spicy basil chicken fried rice. It's my birthday, and I can die of heart disease if I want to. Then we went to the Asian food store where the cashier berated me for not driving to Wilmington to visit my dad on my birthday. We purchased a couple of delicious koala yummies and a mug from China that Emily insisted that I wash before using. Then we went home and I opened all of my wonderful presents. I recieved a very cool picture from my best buddy Jed, a minotaur, dragon head, and Iron Fist collectible figurine, a Green Lantern t-shirt (super nerd!), a wind up tin robot, and some art supplies from my sweetheart. She made the day even better when she informed me that EVERYTHING on my Amazon wishlist had been purchased and was making its way to our humble little home. I was visibly excited by this and actually had a few tourette like spasms. THEN she brought a new bookcase that had been hiding in her trunk to put all my new books on (she wants me to add that she bought a 2lb bag of skittles for me as well). Then Emily and I went to Starbucks and had a doubleshot of espresso, a pumpkin spice latte, and a single tall three pump no whip white mocha frappaccino. After loading up on caffeine we went out to the Lake Higgins Environmental Education facilities where I photographed many disturbing stuffed animals. How I found out about this wonderful place is a whole other story. Satiated on old broken animal carcasses, Ems and I decided it was time for dinner. Unfortunately the Indian restaurant doesn't open until 5, so we wasted an hour at Ed Mckays. At dinner i had chicken chili and rice pudding. We came home and groaned for a while about how we would never eat again after this weekend (although I'm finishing up the rice pudding now). We watched Flight of the Conchords clips until it was time to go to the movie of the evening. "3:10 to Yuma" is fantastic. Everyone should see it. There hasn't been a great Western movie out in a long time, but this one was superlative. When I came home I spoke with my favorite Bostonian, Ray Ray (Keeper of the Bobo), who told me that everything is a text, thus spurring my train of thoughts on a difficult (because I'm anal) English assignment. After i finished that, I started this, and now that it's done I'm going to bed.

What a great year!

Rush Out

In my continuing coverage of birthday weekend 07, I decided to relate what i did (ate) today. Emily and I met my mother bright and early at 11:00 o'clock to have brunch at Muse. While the service can be a little slow, the food is excellent and there's plenty of it. I had a blueberry muffin and some coffee to start, and then moved on to the Pork Mojo sandwich (thinly sliced pork, gruyere cheese, lime mayo, and pickles all smooshed together) along with homemade pommes frites. I most definitely did not eat the bacon from my mother's entree or finish Emily's waffle. Definitely not. Then we all went to the pet store and played with puppies. After we dusted sweet long haired dachshund remnants off of our clothing, Emily and I came home and took a nap. After we woke up we went to pre-order our tickets to "3:10 to Yuma," which has a sneak preview tomorrow night. Post movie ticket buying we went to the comic shop to purchase Mice Templar (which is great and everyone should go buy), then we went to Starbucks for pumpkin spice lattes and cigarette smoking outside. While lazing outside of Starbucks we decided to burn off the pumpkin spice lattes by walking 20 feet to the new Fresh Market. Here I made Emily buy me some grapefruit wedges (or, as I call them, A Reason to Believe In God) before heading home. Oh yes, before we went to Starbucks we had dinner at Monterays. I had roqueta rojo (thats two meals where the j sounded like an h!) and heartburn.
**This blog is turning into a terrible list of my dietary sins. I suppose no one's really gonna read it so I don't really mind.**
Later on this evening we went to check out "Rush Hour 3." DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! We left after the first embarrassing 30 minutes and got a refund. I don't think I've ever been more ashamed to be an American. How could Jackie Chan do this? I know that none of his movies are really that good, but at least they're usually funny. This movie was just offensive. The dialogue was stilted and wooden, and even the fight scenes were terrible. So Emily and I came home to stare sexily at each other over the top of our laptops. Sweet, sweet,

Birthday Gorging

My birthday weekend is moving forward pretty well. This first picture is from the Friday festivities. After all my "real world" obligations were taken care of, E. and I went to Pho Hien Vuong for lunch. Pho is the best Vietnamese restaurant in town. I started with a delicious vegetarian imperial role, which is noodles, fried tofu, bean sprouts, and mint wrapped in rice paper. It is served with peanut sauce. Next I had the chicken noodle soup. Emily and I went to Dynasty and bought a plate and spoon to match my bowl. While there we picked up some delicious koala yummies. Then we came home and took a nap before heading out to Hollywood Video to pick up "Dynamite Warrior." The movie is a sweet muy thai kick boxing movie with a western flair. The main character rode rockets around and stopped buffalo rustlers. After we rented the movie we went to Tara Thai. I had vegetarian spring rolls and Chicken Pad Thai, extra spicy! Wait staff at Thai restaurants never believe that you want your food spicy. They always wait a few times to gauge your spice handling. Luckily at Tara Thai, the waitress knows how i like it! After we finished the Thai food we went by Walgreens for cigarettes, Jackie Chan energy drink, and Cadbury fruit and nut bars. I dropped by Pho to pick up some of their famous buffalo wings (get it? we had thai food and buffalo wings before our movie about Thai buffalo rustlers!) for during movie snacking. As you can probably guess by reading this, I promptly went into a food coma as soon as we came home. I woke up in the morning with buffalo sauce on my lips and bruises from attempter Muy Thai moves on my knees. What a fantastic start to birthday weekend.
